Subject: Join us at today’s nationwide “Unity Against Hate” rally, Yellow Whistles to be distributed

Hope you have a good start of the day. APAPA has teamed up with over 120 national and local organizations to host the nationwide “Unity Against Hate” rally. There will be similar events taking place in Canada and Australia in solidarity.

The “Unity Against Hate” rally is to show compassion and solidarity in wake of the rising hate incidents against Asian Americans and other minority groups nationally and call for actions, and for community members to get together to see and support each other after a challenging time coping with the pandemic. At these events, there will be speeches by federal, state and local officials, community members and youths, community tents and booths, and group art activities to celebrate diversity and inclusion, and to condemn hatred and racial bias. Community groups and municipalities will have booths to provide information about public service programs, voter registration and COVID vaccine.

We will also distribute “We belong” Yellow Whistles to participants thanks to the support of The Yellow Whistle Project:

“In Nature, Yellow Is The Color Of Daffodils And Sunflowers, Signaling The Advent Of Spring, Bringing Hope, Optimism, And Enlightenment.
In America, Yellow Has Been Weaponized Against Asians As The Color Of Xenophobia.
The Yellow Whistle™ Is A Symbol Of Self-Protection And Solidarity In Our Common Fight Against Historical Discrimination And Anti-Asian Violence. The Whistle Is A Simple Gadget With A Universal Purpose—To Signal Alarm And Call For Help—For All Americans.
We Shall Not Remain Silent, Because
We Belong™.”

Please contact me ( or if your organization would like to help distribute yellow whistles to local community members.

APAPA supports grassroots efforts in pushing for legislation to tackle hate crimes and provide support to minority groups. Please encourage citizens in your network to request their representatives support the federal COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act (S. 937), which the House is set to vote on in late May. We also encourage Ohio residents to support the Ohio Senate Bill 87 to Create Asian-American and Pacific Islander Affairs Commision. Currently the Ohio Senate Finance Committee is seeking testimonies regarding this bill. Please let me know if you or someone you know can submit a testimony.
