Volunteers Needed for #StopAsianHate Event

Saturday, September 11, 2021
12 – 3:00 PM
Sara D. Roosevelt Park, Chinatown, NYC

The Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF) is participating in a Back-to-School #StopAsianHate event at Sara D. Roosevelt Park in Chinatown. We will perform community outreach by distributing #StopAsianHate resources, buttons, and more at our table.

Bilingual in Chinese, Korean, and Tagalog helpful, but not necessary.

Available shifts: 12 – 1:30 pm, 1:30 – 3:00 pm, or stay for both shifts!

AALDEF is a national organization founded in 1974 to protect and promote the civil rights of Asian Americans. We have provided assistance to Asian Americans of all ethnic and immigrant backgrounds, who have been blamed for COVID-19 and targeted for hate violence, harassment, and discrimination. We have spoken at several events and conferences about the rise in anti-Asian violence and its historical roots, and we have advocated for stronger hate crime laws. As always, our approach addresses both individuals facing hate violence and the root causes of anti-Asian racism.

It is debatable whether the US policy and action on Afghanistan was correct. It is not debatable that the Afghan refugees need help. Many Asian Americans in the Bay Area are forming coalitions to offer assistance to the thousands refugees who are coming here.    – Joel

In South Korea, children were met with pink and white teddy bears, while people around the world offered up donations and their spare bedrooms.

Subject: URGENT: Help Sam renew his DACA!!!

Call Congress to make sure USCIS renews Sam’s DACA NOW!

Once again, one of our community members is at risk of losing his DACA status, and we NEED YOUR HELP NOW.

Because of a bureaucratic backlog, Sam’s DACA renewal application has not yet been processed. His DACA is going to expire on September 8th, 2021, and he is at risk of losing his job and healthcare unless his status is restored. We saw the power of people in our success with member Ju Hong’s case, and we need your help again!

Samuel Park is a 31-year-old DACAmented consumer rights litigation attorney working in Chicago, Illinois. A member of HANA Center, Sam volunteers as the director of our Pro Bono Clinic and is an active member of OCEAN, HANA Center’s undocumented young people’s group.

“If my current DACA status lapses, I will no longer be able to work in these capacities. I will also lose my health insurance and will no longer be able to support my family. I would once again be living daily with the fear of being deported to a country that I no longer recognize. I need everyone’s help calling my U.S. Senators and Representatives to contact USCIS to expedite my DACA case as soon as possible.”

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and Congress’ inaction continues to throw our lives in ruin. DACA statuses are expiring as a result of ongoing processing delays, and our members are at risk of deportation, losing their jobs and healthcare.

Call Congress to renew Sam’s DACA NOW

DACA is NOT enough. We NEED pathway to citizenship!!!

Call Congress and let them know: This is unacceptable. USCIS cannot continue delaying Sam’s application or the applications of countless other DACAmented community members. This has real-life consequences for people who are losing their jobs, cannot work and support their families, and are at a risk for deportation and separation from their loved ones. We need a permanent solution and a pathway to citizenship for our community NOW!

Countless DACAmented immigrants are facing delays and backlog, and
Congress must act NOW to process their applications and give permanent solution for our community!

Help Sam renew his DACA NOW before it expires!

FW: URGENT: Hwangchan needs to renew his DACA!

We need your help again to call on Congress to act on the ongoing DACA backlog. Our community member, Hwangchan, is at risk of losing his DACA status. His DACA renewal application has not yet been processed, and his DACA is going to expire on September 10th, 2021.

The ongoing USCIS delays have affected countless number of immigrants including Ju, Sam, and Hwangchan.

We need a permanent solution for our community. We can no longer wait.

Hwangchan Yu is a suburban organizer at HANA Center, where he collaborates with high school youth and teachers in the Chicago suburbs to advance racial and social justice. Due to the DACA renewal application backlogs, Hwangchan’s DACA, which includes his Employment Authorization Document (EAD) expires on September 10th.

“Due to USCIS’ delay, I will be unable to continue working with students and teachers in the suburbs to strengthen our community. I will also be limited in my capacity to provide financial support to my mother. Without the protections DACA provides, I will be at risk of losing more than just participating in community — I will be at risk of losing my safety from being detained and deported, and being separated from my community, family, and friends.

These delays put our community members at risk of deportation, losing their jobs and healthcare. We saw the power of people in our success with Ju Hong’s case, and we need your help!
