APAPA Statement:
(CNN) At least 49 people were killed and 20 seriously injured in mass shootings at two mosques in the New Zealand city of Christchurch Friday, in a carefully planned and unprecedented atrocity that shocked the usually peaceful nation.
APAPA is saddened and at the same time, outraged by this senseless attack on two mosques where at least 49 people were slaughtered and 20 seriously injured. Although this event happened on the other side of the world and far from the United States, t oday, the world is interconnected and united by the internet and social media that has essentially erased time and space and maybe even national boundaries.
We stand in solidarity with the victims of these acts of cowardice and hate for as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. observed:
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”
We are compelled to express our sympathy for the innocent victims. Although divided by an ocean, we are united in our opposition to hate.
And so today, we grieve. And tomorrow, we rise up in unity to celebrate diversity and to stand in firm opposition to all forms of intolerance. APAPA renews our commitment to eradicate all forms of intolerance and hatred within our country and throughout the world.
Hate will never win.
